Hacienda White, Egypt • 2018
A summer house where soft, layered lighting supports outdoor living, enhances architectural clarity, and extends the use of the space from day into night.
The key challenge was maintaining the relaxed nature of a summer home while ensuring sufficient lighting for outdoor living after sunset. The space needed to feel inviting and comfortable without becoming over-illuminated, allowing the architecture, landscape, and water reflections to remain the focal points. The lighting also had to respond to different zones—from covered lounges to open terraces—while maintaining visual cohesion.
The lighting design focused on restraint and warmth. Soft ambient lighting was introduced under pergolas and shaded areas to support evening gatherings, while discreet accent lighting defined architectural lines and key outdoor elements. Light levels were carefully controlled to preserve the calm atmosphere of the house, allowing reflections from the pool and surrounding greenery to enrich the nighttime experience. The result is a summer residence that feels serene and welcoming, where light quietly enhances both architecture and lifestyle.
